Supporting Derby County Football Club with a special beer

DERBY BREWING COMPANY SUPPORTING LOCAL CLUB WITH SPECIAL BEER

Local business Derby Brewing Company is brewing a special beer to support Derby County Football Club after the Rams were put into administration by Mel Morris, the club's chairman, last month.

The beer, which is being named by DCFC fans in collaboration with Steve Bloomer’s Washing Podcast on Twitter, will raise 20p for every pint sold going towards the club. Early name suggestions from fans include 1884, Popside, Jim Smith’s Extra Smooth, Paulo One Hop, and 11 Pints.

DBC and Steve Bloomer’s Washing have been inundated with suggestions and messages of support on social media, and suggestions will be taken until 3pm on Wednesday 6 October. A shortlist will be made available for fans to choose the ultimate winning name for the beer by the end of this week.

Derby Brewing Company’s Managing Director, Paul Harris said:

“Like many in the city we hold the club dear and couldn’t imagine Derby without it, so we really wanted to do what we could to help at this difficult time. We couldn’t think of a better way than to do what we do best, brew a great beer to raise some money for the club.

“We really wanted to include the fans in the beer’s journey and we have been amazed by the initial reaction with nearly 200 suggestions in the first few hours!”

The 4.2% session pale will be brewed with Maris Otter Malt. DBC’s head brewer, Andy Marshall gave the tasting notes as being: “Golden in colour with a great zesty hop character with citrus overtone.”

We really hope pubs locally and from further afield will get behind the beer by getting it on their bars. We are donating 20p from every pint sold to the club so pubs and customers can do their bit whilst enjoying a great beer.

The beer will be available to buy from mid-October.
