Paulo Wanchope shares his thoughts on DCFC beer to Costa Rican national press

Weeks after first naming and launching Paulo One Hop - the beer which we’re brewing to raise money for DCFC - Paulo Wanchope has spoken to Costa Rican newspaper, La Nacion.

Using the wonderful but imperfect “Google Translate” tool, we have deciphered his interview which, of course, was originally in Spanish:

“It's nice because it's part of the expressions of affection that the city and the team have always shown me. It's funny how people's creativity emerges at a time when the team is going through difficulties, not only in sports, but also financially. I hope everyone comes out to collaborate.

“I always wish the best for the institution. I am very aware of the results and how the club is doing. I know that they are going through a very complicated situation and lost points due to financial irregularities and are looking for investors, so we hope they will appear soon.

The former Costa Rican World Cup winner for Korea and Japan 2002 and Germany 2006 explained that the image that appears on the beer label is a celebration of one of his entries against Arsenal.

“That celebrating image [used on the pump clip] is iconic and they use it a lot at the club. That day I scored a double against Arsenal and we won 3-0. I am not very fond of drinking beer, but among friends I have some. I think I'll have a free beer the next time I visit the club."

"I have a special affection for Derby. It was an instantaneous situation since I arrived and we achieved important things. I believe that this affection that they keep for me is reciprocal. Every time I go to England he happens to visit some friends and of course the club."

“I had to inaugurate the new stadium and be part of the history of a club, which despite not being a large institution, we were even in sixth place and I think we enjoyed it a lot. With my annotations comes that attachment that exists among their fans.”

We’re now on our third brew of Paulo One Hop due to its popularity, and have had several fans ask for it to be bottled or canned - including many Costa Ricans in both the UK and across the Atlantic. We’re currently looking into the logistics of this - watch this space!
